Astrocyte
Astrocytes are glial cells that help form the physical structure of the brain. They have many roles including, but not limited to nervous system repair, vasomodulation, and metabolic support for neurons. The significance to autism spectrum disorder is that astrocyte dysfunction is being found in people on the spectrum. This dysfunction may result in a change in neural circuitry which is believed to be an underlying characteristic of autism spectrum disorder.
