Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental condition characterized by the DSM by challenges in social interaction, speech and nonverbal communication, and restricted/repetitive behaviors.
However, we would rather say it’s a neurodevelopmental difference characterized by alterations in social functioning, hypersensitivity to stimuli, repetitive behaviors, and deep interests—often combined with advanced cognitive & perceptive abilities.
